Spiritual Growth & Religious Education

The primary purpose for the existence of Our Lady of Lourdes School is the teaching of religion and the principal application of Christian social principles. Here all learning can take place in an atmosphere of religious ideals.

In recent years, sacramental preparation has become more and more the privilege of the parents; it has, however, always been their right and responsibility. The duty of the school and the parish is to assist parents by providing opportunities to review the meaning of the Sacraments, to suggest methods of relating the ideas to the child, and to provide times for the reception of the Sacraments. The school helps the child to join fully in the Eucharistic celebration through the Sacrament of Holy Communion, to learn to love the mercy of God in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and to become committed to the faith in the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Devotion to the Blessed Mother is encouraged and implemented in various activities. In October, the rosary is stressed. In February, a special effort is made to inform the students of the story of Our Lady of Lourdes. A Marian Prayer Service offers the opportunity to honor Mary during the month of May. A one-day retreat experience is set aside for the eight graders to become more aware of their Christian calling.

Liturgy

As a member in Our Lady of Lourdes faith community, we acknowledge the centrality of the Eucharist in our lives as a unifying force and as a gracefilled experience. Throughout the year, the various grade levels have the opportunity to plan Eucharistic celebrations for their own group and for the entire school. This provides for a greater familiarity of the parts of the Mass while increasing the meaningfulness in everyday living.

Lectors

Students from all grades have the privilege of serving as lectors during the liturgy.

Servers

To assist in the Liturgical Celebrations, volunteers are accepted in grade six and continue through grade eight and high school.

What our parents say about Lourdes:

  • “I have been a member of Our Lady of Lourdes all my life. All eight years of my schooling were great and memorable. There were certain "special" things about each year that I will never forget. Today, my three kids Dominic, Maria, and Gina couldn't agree with me more! Our Lady of Lourdes school has a superior academic program, providing students with a fair, yet challenging curriculum.” - Parent of students in grades 8, 5 and 1.

  • “Our Lady of Lourdes not only focuses on education but the staff also stresses a great moral environment which I believe has had a great influence on my children.  As my children have developed into teenagers, I believe Our Lady of Lourdes’ teaching has truly helped them make good education and good moral decisions during these tough teenage years.” - Parent of students in grade 8
